Background & Education
Doug Wythe completed undergraduate studies at University of Southern California, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theater. He eventually started his own television production company (DAW Productions) and worked as a television writer and producer for a number of popular talk shows (e.g., Oprah, Donahue, Live with Regis and Kathie Lee/Kelly, the Joan Rivers Show). In addition to talk shows, Doug worked as a writer/producer on the syndicated game show, Who Wants to be A Millionaire, as well as for ABC News where he won a National Emmy Award. Having made a career transition in mid-life, mental health became his sole professional focus. He graduated from Rutgers University with an MSW, gaining expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and the integration of these modalities with more exploratory insight-oriented approaches.
Prior to his career as a therapist, Mr. Wythe utilized his background as co-president of his high school speech team, serving as a lecturer in high schools and colleges, speaking to students about LGBTQ issues. Later, he appeared on television, radio and panels to discuss issues related to gay marriage and co-wrote a book on this topic, “The Wedding: A Family’s Coming Out Story”. He continues to use his performing arts training, appearing in cabaret venues, as both vocalist and pianist, and also engages in various athletic activities, including endurance running.
